Last leg of our 100 Days To Brave...

I find myself celebrating the growth in this journey but still longing for answers.

Can you believe it? This week we put the cherry on top of our 100 days together. Thank you for being here with me during this challenge.

Note: We may be stronger physically and spiritually but our work isn't done after day 100. It's just begun. If you've followed along (and watched the videos that go along with this study) you've seen my transparency in praying for guidance and wisdom. I've pleaded with God to provide my family clarity. I will stop being elusive and give you the inside scoop:

1. I've asked God to rescue us financially (debt, boo)
2. I've asked God to tell me yay or nay to homeschooling (my son has autism and public school is a mess).
3. I've asked God to move swiftly if we are suppose to sell our house (and it's been on the market for 12+ months)
4. I've asked God to meet the needs of my husband and his career.
5. I've asked God to make Himself REAL to each of you.

Yikes... I guess you can say I am a big asker.

I've transformed my closet into a prayer room (inspired by War Room, duh!) and by studying this book with you, I've become brave enough to release strongholds that have clouded my mind.

God doesn't promise to answer every prayer. He doesn't guarantee that your faithfulness will equal an easy life. But you know what He DOES promise? Read the verse I wrote on my hand:

"I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you." Psalm 32:8

Now THAT is a promise I can rest in... He wants us to be BRAVE enough to let Him make us brave. And it takes time. It takes faith. It takes belief that He will guide you along the best pathway for your life. Amen!

Day 87 of 100 Days To Brave

Day 87 of 100 Days To Brave

41706539_10102441794072368_5715883279429664768_n.jpg

Where are you today?

Are you reading this at work? In the car line? On your couch watching TV? I ask you this because I want you to look around and reflect on your physical location. Now reflect on your mental location. Are you having a high or low week? Have you been content and pleasant... or cranky and dissatisfied?

During these next few days, our 100 Days To Brave study will challenge us to be brave enough to be where we are. This can obviously be interpreted as literal or metaphorical. For me, it's both.

We've been trying to sell our house for months and it's becoming discouraging. I hear God telling me, "Be brave enough to be where are you. I have this under control." Also, we got some bad news this week regarding the insurance coverage our son needs for his Autistic services. It's frustrating and exhausting and my brain is moosh. Yet I hear God reassure me, "Be brave enough to be where you are. Even in the places that you do not understand."

What could God be whispering to you today?

I find refuge in following Nehemiah's example. He prayed, planned and acted. That is how I resolve each day... I feel like the pressures of the world are too heavy to bear? Then I must pray, plan and act.

If I plan and never act, I get no where.
If I act and never pray, I run in circles.
If I pray and never plan, I walk in fear.

God wants you to be BRAVE enough to be where you are. He is there with you!

Day 78 of 100 Days of Brave

Day 78 of 100 Days To Brave

Being brave enough to serve means you are brave enough to see other's needs.

It seems incredibly hard to serve others when you don't know what they need. This question should come up frequently in conversations with friends. I've been blessed with friends who ask me this and it takes me off guard.

For years I hid behind social media and allowed my virtual life to become reality. It seemed easier to keep everyone as arms length. However, since walking through this 100 day bible study, I've recognized how cowardly that actually is. I wasn't seeing good friends because I wasn't being a good friend.

Ideas for acts of service:
(1) Writing a friend a snail mail card
(2) Bringing someone Starbucks
(3) Doordashing some dinner to a family
(4) Volunteering at church
(5) Turning off screens and play eye-to-eye with your kids
(6) Sharing your story so others can see how Jesus still works
(7) Tithing your gross income
(8) Babysitting for a couple to have date night
(9) Sending a teacher a gift card
(10) Using your words to encourage (not complain)

These are just a few examples that I've seen recently and as sisters in Christ, we ought to go through this life more often. Being brave enough to serve means being brave enough to go the extra mile.

Pick ONE of the 10 ideas above and commit to it this week. If we want to live a life like Jesus, we must serve like He did... without hesitation or fear. He was selfless. Let's be more mindful this week to love fast.

Does it take courage to take care of your body?

You betcha! You don't see immediate results, you have to sacrifice sleep and tastebuds. You may even have to say no to some fun events in order to get enough rest. You have the be brave enough to trust that is honors God.

It's no secret that I have a relentless passion for health & fitness. Having been a Beachbody Coach for 6+ years, I've helped hundreds of women partner with the right fitness program and nutrition plan. My joy doesn't come from the number on a scale or the fit of my pants... my joy comes from me feeling my best.

I know what crappy feels like... I know what it's like being sluggish, foggy, constant bloat, stomach pain, migraines, heart palpitations, adult cystic acne, PCOS, IBS... all the things. It sucks.

And I know what it feels like to be energized, alert, regular, happy, free, and confident.

God wants you to feel good.

As we turn into our next section of 100 Days To Brave, it's all about healing. I want you to watch this video and see if you relate. Also, let me know if there is anything I could do to help you in your healthy habits (link to the FREE BOOTCAMP that I mention in the video)

Day 60 of 100 Days To Brave

Day 60 of 100 Days To Brave

Are you a quitter?

Today we step foot into our newest section of 100 Days To Brave. We are going to learn how to be brave enough to persevere.

Annie shares some great stories about how she pushed through and found strength on the other side. We all have stories like that. Just like Deuteronomy 4:9-10 tells us to NEVER FORGET what the Lord has done, we must never forget how far God has brought us thus far. In today's video I told you guys that I made a list of things I wanted to tell God thank you for... small things that may be easily overlooked. But recalling them helped build my belief that He is always near.

Since we know that suffering develops perseverance, and perseverance develops character, and character develops hope... we can know that with hope, everything will be ok. Even when it hurts. God is good. All the time.

I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU:

  • Stop and make a list of milestones in your life (ie. a big move, a game win, a loss of a loved one)

  • In each of those markers, identify something that God did that helped you

  • Tell God how thankful you are that He did that thing (big or small)

Sometimes the strength we need to persevere comes in the form of recognizing that we've been on hard roads before... and God has ALWAYS been there with us.

Day 51 of 100 Days To Brave

70720925_10102902795107598_5468845251714088960_n.jpg

Oooo we're halfway there... living on a prayer!

Now if that's not the truth, I don't know what is. I am absolutely living prayer to prayer.

I decided early on in our 100 Day Challenge that I would level up each 25 days and tweak a habit in my routine. On days 1-25, I vowed to not miss a workout in my Morning Meltdown 100 program. On days 26-50, I vowed to wake up early and dive deeper into studying the Bible. Now we enter the third quarter... I naturally want to choose something easy. But God was laying on my heart that I need to show up in deeper prayer.

I started a 40-day prayer challenge ("Draw The Circle" by Mark Batterson)

60f41de3-a0e5-49a6-b4e9-a0c61a90c789.jpg

I always get scared to overcommit which leads to sloppy work which leads to burn out. However, this felt right. In today's video I share how I've embraced change lately in my morning routine. I share the scripture I am praying daily at a specific time. I let you see inside my head a bit (that will be scary for you, ha).

Change is inevitable. And you may not be walking through a season of change, but God always wants to take you deeper in a relationship with Him. So I challenge you to CHANGE one thing about how you study God's Word and talk to Him.

Suggestions:

  • Wake up 15-minutes earlier to journal

  • Commit to reading a chapter of the Bible a day

  • Pick a place in your house to meet with God daily

  • Ask God to show you where you need to repent

  • Invite your neighbors over for dinner

  • Tithe 10% of your household income

Little changes add up. We are either growing closer to God or away from Him. We never sit stagnant (even though the enemy wants us to think being luke warm is ok).

Day 42 of 100 Days To Brave

64210825_10102773441717828_4396650333200187392_n.jpg

To be a good friend takes courage.

It's not easy making friends. Especially if you are the awkward friend (like me).

This next section of 100 Days To Brave, Annie F. Downs talks about being Brave Enough To Love Others. That includes friends, family, co-workers, and even those in your circles who seem unlovable.

Do you crave friendships and community? Are you doing anything about it?

In today's video, I challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and plug into your local church. Virtual community is rich and fulfilling (when you really dive in) but it, by no means, can replace the command to have connect to those in your physical community. It's easy to hide behind a keyboard but God wants you to be brave. Get out of the house. Schedule a play date. Attend a new gym class or bible study.

I share a personal story in today's video that I kind of regret. But I trust that I can say it to you because you are a safe place to vent, right? When we put ourselves out there to love others, sometimes the feeling isn't mutual. Sometimes we WANT to be loved but people just don't understand us quite yet. So we feel unwelcomed or unloved. And that stings. But we are called to be brave enough to love others, even when they don't know how to love us yet.

Are you needing a safe place to vent? Do you have a lot on your heart and you don't know who you talk to in order to process it all? I'd love to be a good friend to you. Feel free to shoot me a text. Day 33 of 100 Days To Brave

One Calling, Multiple Expressions

You better hold on tight during these next nine days. When you ask God to make you brave enough to work hard, He'll come through.

Work comes in many forms. It can be related to your career, your home management, your healthy habits, your attitude, etc. Any level of effort put forth toward a focused goal = work.

As women of God, let's agree with Annie as we explains that God created us with one calling but multiple expressions of said calling.

Your calling may be to use your creativity to inspire others. The outlet(s) you choose to practice that calling could be painting nurseries for your friends, writing a blog about home decor, singing in the church worship band. You see what I'm getting at? If God has gifted you with something, it was not by accident. Pinpoint that skill (passion) and allow yourself to work hard while you use it love fast and live slow. It's full circle.

In today's video, I share a personal struggle. Sometimes we pray and plead for answers and God tells us to wait. He wants us to work hard even when we don't know the outcome. Are you brave enough to put in the work without knowing the payoff?

Day 24 of 100 Days To Brave

Screenshot+2019-08-20+20.52.17.png

Chase the dreams that are alive.

Chasing dreams isn't new for me. Falling flat on my face when a dream fails isn't new for me. But the courage it takes to see a dream THROUGH with God in the middle... that's new for me.

As we grow up, no one teaches us about humility. The subtle message is, "Shine bright so you can succeed!" We focus far too much attention on the human and not the Creator. But it is the Creator who gave us the dreams we run so hard after. Why not let him steer the ship, am I right?

Over the next eight days you will learn about the courage it takes to dream.

Maybe this is your first go at it and you are terrified. Maybe you are an excerpt visionary but always cut corners and miss the trophy. Wherever you are, I pray you open your heart this week to allow God to open or close necessary doors.

In today's video (remember, I am sending out a video/blog/email at the start of each new section. My emails may seem sporadic but they are very much planned this way, ha! Check out the schedule here: BLOG

What did you think of the Nehemiah story? He is a brave guy. Once that dream was ignited in his heart, there was no stopping him. I hope we can say the same for us. Once God puts a dream in our laps, may we run hard after it with faith and fury.

See you guys in the comments soon!

Day 15 of 100 Days To Brave

Believe Who God Says He Is

I feel a resounding theme in my life: "Laura, trust me!" - God

The picture above is what life feels like for a lot of us. We are out in the world, being all vulnerable and hard-working, just trying to do the right thing but getting hit from every angle. Lucky for my son, he loves this kind of resistance. Unlucky for many of us, we think any obstruction to our plan means God's not in it.

Sister, let me tell you: God is in it. He's always in it.

This week as you dive into the next section of 100 Days To Brave (Brave Enough To Believe God), I hope you encounter resistance. Not because I don't want you to success or experience peace, but because this gives you the chance to grow. When we surrender and believe who God says He is, that means we are laying down our pride, our fears, our control. He is in charge. He has a plan. He can win the day.

Today is the last day of summer for my boys (they start back in school routine tomorrow). I look forward to this next section of our study and this next transition into the school year. What things are you looking forward to? Are you letting God move in your life... or are you the one being resistant?

Day 6 of 100 Days To Brave

Screenshot+2019-08-04+15.59.35.png

"You aren't a mistake."

Welcome back for DAY SIX of our 100 Days To Brave! Hopefully during the last 5ish days you've spent time reading the first section (Brave Enough To Start). And today starts the second section: Brave Enough To Be Me.

I'm getting a bit nervous about how God is teaching me VERY HANDS-ON to walk through my fears. Last week, Leland went to the ER for stitches. This week (so far): Leland shattered the window to the back porch, Everett had a nocturnal asthma attack (almost had to call 911) and last night, I pushed myself out of my social comfort zone -- more about that in today's video.

I guess when you pray for bravery, God will line up some field training.

As you heard in my video, I need to challenge myself this week (and um, forever) to be brave enough to be who I am as a mom and wife. That sounds so simple, yet when I am in the trenches, I fear judgement or total social dork-ness. Seems too silly to be legit, but it is. And I know the enemy enjoys teasing me with that anxiety. I will choose brave!

Are you brave enough to be you? What lies are you telling yourself?

I hope you free yourself from that bondage this week. God makes no mistakes.

Be brave this week, ladies. Mostly (selfishly) because watching you be brave helps me be brave (and we are in this together)!

See you guys in the comments!

Day 1 of 100 Days To Brave

37010faf-650c-449f-8994-b11dfe353adf.jpg

"Brave people don't stop hearing the whispers of fear"

Welcome to DAY ONE of our 100 Days To Brave! You are here with us and I couldn't be more full of butterflies & unicorns. During this first blog, I will cover a summary of the first section: Brave Enough To Start.

Let me first introduce myself: Hi, I am Laura. I am a total down-to-earth gal who loves her family and loves Jesus. I am nothing special. That isn't some superficial humble brag, that is a genuine, "Trust me girl, when you meet me in person you will realize I am a dorky homebody who likes to laugh until she cries." I hope we can become closer friends through this journey.

I am a wife of almost 12 years (wow!) and our marriage hasn't been perfect. I am a mom of three kiddos (aka minions) and our family dynamic is diverse. By diverse, I mean we are a neurodiverse family because my oldest son is autistic and it's rocked my world. Even though my world is unpredictable and messy, I want to invite you into it. Are you down for that?

If you are still reading this then I will assume you are on board for this adventure with me. I chose 100 Days To Brave as our newest Live Slow Bible Study because I need more brave in my life. During these last 12 months I've been overtaken by fear and confusion as we plowed through my son's diagnosis, my family's financial crisis and my husbands career change. Sometimes life just throw wrenches at your face, am I right? Or am I right?

Today is DAY ONE and the next 4 days will cover the BRAVE ENOUGH TO START section of your book. That is what we are chatting about today.

My hope with this first chat is that you've started Day 1 and look forward to days 1-5. I'll shoot you an email again on day 6 when we start our next conversation about "Brave Enough To Be You"

I'd love for you to share a COMMENT BELOW to be real with other women walking through this same study.

I love you guys way more than you can ever imagine. My prayer is that I can wash your feet virtually during these 100 days. I want to meet you where you are and shower love + belonging on you #sorryifthatscheesy #imeanit

I know being brave is hard. I know sometimes life sucks. But the beauty of it all is that God can show us the way. We can experience peace in our hearts. I want that for you!

Each quarter, a bunch of like-minded gals get together for an online Bible Study called Live Slow Bible Study. This quarter we’ve chosen to study 100 Days To Brave together. You can still join us or do this study on your own (and use this blog guide as an extra resource).

WHAT TO EXPECT?

This online bible study will be email + blog based. I chose to take this off social media because (personally) I get way too distracted and start chasing squirrels.

If you look at the table of contents of the book, you will see Angie separated the book into sections. Each of those sections (Brave Enough To Start, Brave Enough To Be You, etc) will cue a blog + email from yours truly. Don't worry, I won't harass your inbox with 100 emails. For those organized types (not I), here are the emails broken down by the day we will start that section:

I want to create a bond between us because hanging out with like-minded women is special and unique. I've opened up commenting on my blog so let's hang out there! Please (it's encouraged!) comment on each blog I share with the summary and overview of that section.

HOORAY! Because I love yall, each blog over said section will include:

  • Video overview

  • Podcast summary

  • My favorite takeaways

  • Prayer requests

  • Other surprise goodies

HOW TO PREPARE?

Make sure you have the book, 100 Days To Brave
Don't half-way show up. Dive in!

Go ahead and practice commenting:
1) Tell us your name
2) Where you are from
3) Family life (married, kids, work. ?)
4) Why you joined our Live Slow Bible Study?

(To meet the gals who went through the July 29 - November 5th study: SEE THEIR COMMENTS)

WHAT IS THE BOOK ABOUT?

"You were always meant to be brave.

Whether you're making a major decision, dealing with a difficult transition, or facing a fear, 100 Days toBrave will give you courage and confidence to move forward.

Annie F. Downs felt her challenges were too difficult, too scary, too much. Then she decided to stop allowing fear to hold her back. It wasn't easy or simple. But it was good.

With honesty and relatable humor, this compilation of best-of writings and new pieces from Annie will give you the inspiration to embrace the path and the plan God has for you and experience personal growth.

Dare to spend the next 100 days discovering that you are braver than you know and stronger than you thought possible." (excerpt from Amazon.com)

Thank you! I can’t wait to meet you —
