Hello! We are Nick and Laura Mendenhall.
We have three beautiful kiddos who keep us on our toes and moving like crazy. In 2012, we started on a journey that would change our lives in ways we never imagined. God's plans were always bigger and better than ours, but at the time we did not see the bigger picture. Sounds all too familiar, huh? We all get stuck in that trap sometimes.
We’ve learned a lot over the years. From full-time college students, to teaching, to working in full-time ministry, to corporate America, to jobless, to entrepreneurs. Our track record is not that impressive to one who deems a traditional career path the hallmark of success. However, we choose to view life differently. We got married young and have enjoyed growing up together.
In the midst of our spiritual, financial and physical highs & lows, we had this underlying desire to serve others and enjoy adventure. Bottle that up and there is birthed Love Fast Live Slow. This motto was birthed from Jesus' words to the Love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
First Came Love.
We met in college in 2004. Started dating in 2005.
Then Came marriage.
Engaged in 2006. Married in 2007.
Then Came baby in a baby Carriage.
We were very excited yet dizzy from being in survival mode. Laura was still working for the same medical software company. During her entire pregnancy, she was traveling 75% and lugging suitcases around airports and hotels. Nick accepted a job at that same company which had him traveling 90% away from home (4-5 days every week). Nick barely made it home in time to be with Laura when she went into labor. We were getting by with the skin of our teeth. But survival was all we knew. And a fast paced life was what we were good at.
Something was still missing.
Masking our disconnect, we thought if we closed our eyes and plowed through, then the Lord would stop tapping on our shoulder. We had the new jobs, the new baby, the new house. It was too risky to dig up our roots and start something new when we had just become “comfortable.”
We hired a nanny to help with childcare because work was more and more demanding. Laura’s commute was 3 hours a day (3 days a week) and Nick worked several nights a week.
You get the picture? We were not in good health. Mentally. Spiritually. Physically. Emotionally.
We broke. We listened. We surrendered. We obeyed.
God moved us to Florida in 2014 and threw us right in the middle of an incredible faith community. He took us both out of our traditional jobs and laid a relentless mission on our hearts. Since that day, we’ve pursued loving fast and living slow as a family calling. Now we want to share it with the world.
Whether it’s yesterday, today or tomorrow, you will come face-to-face with feelings of unrest. It’s not a matter of if but when. Our natural instinct is to combat those feelings with whatever strength we can muster in order to avoid becoming a soggy mess. Whether it’s related to work, marriage, parenting, finances, or health (the list could go on), we challenge you to view all obstacles through a Love Fast Live Slow lens.
Within the pages of our upcoming book, we lay out what this so called lens or mindset entails. Our stories and life application is rooted in what the Bible says about living a full and abundant life. No matter what the world says, we choose to find rest and peace in Him. And Him alone. Not our own might or power. Because we aren’t as strong as we think.
Sing it with us: Little ones to Him belong. We are weak. But He is strong.
